Pumpkin Patch???

In October we plan to open up a small pumpkin patch.   Check the website later on in the summer and we will have more details and information along with some pictures of our pumpkins.  We will plant some different varieties that are sure to make for some strange jack-o-lanterns.   Have you ever seen a warty pumpkin?   We will also have some end of the season produce available for sale.   This will not be a huge production pumpkin patch like some of the big ones down in the valley.  We like to keep things low key.  So if you’re looking for a laid back pumpkin patch that’s a bit less crowded, we might be the place for you.   So far we have  5- 110’ rows of pumpkins and squashes in the ground.    With some good weather next summer we should have a decent crop.

What’s happening

Harvest has begun.  Just walked through our landing and it smells like a Christmas tree.  The air is clear and cold (way past crisp) with lots of stars in the sky.  It’s nice to just stop take a deep breath and enjoy the sights and smells, until the sounds of crashing comes from the house (it is full of teenage boys).  We’ll finish up our first truck tomorrow and get the second one ready to go.  They are small trucks and don’t take a lot of trees at a time.  If you’re checking us out from Chico, trees will be on their way to you soon.  Next week it is decorating setting up and getting ready to open u-cuts.  It will be a busy week, I have several hundred feet of fence garland to make and some wreaths for decorating.  Boredom will not be an issue right now.

Molalla Country Farm Loop.   We are offer a hay ride through the farm that goes through the bottom of the farm that few of our U-Cut customers get to see.  We’ll explain a little bit about what is going on in the different parts and answer questions you might have about how we do what we do or about the trees and the critters we have running around.  On a hot day it is a nice ride through the trees.  Most of the tour route is shaded and 10—15 degrees cooler than it is in the sun.   If you want a quick ride the tour takes about a half hour.  We have a longer ride where we can stop and you can learn a bit more about the farm, we’ll also stop and walk out to what we call the hangin’ tree.  It is a huge old doug fir.  We hope to get a forester out to bore the tree so we can get an age for it.  This ride takes an hour or even longer if you would like and we don’t have people waiting for a hay ride up top.  We will have a summer version of our craft project for the kids, our animals are still hanging around begging for treats and we will have a cool beverage and a cookie for a quick snack.  If you would like to stay longer you can bring a picnic lunch or browse through the tree fields.  After the trees are finished growing you can pick out a tree for this Christmas.  We will tag it and give you a map marking where it is at.  This gives you the best selection of trees possible.  We do ask that you put a deposit down on the tree for us to hold it for you.   Produce from our CSA garden will be available for purchase and we always have fresh eggs available.   I soon hope to have a new page on our website with better explanations about the Farm Tour.
