What’s happening

Hard to believe that harvest is almost over.  About one more week and then I get to begin my Christmas shopping for the family.  Then a weeks break before we begin the work of getting ready to plant, both trees and vegetables.  U-Cuts have been going good this year, we saw lots of new families and many who have become regulars over the last several years.  We hope to see all of you again next year.  Today I am off to make the last of the garland and a couple more wreaths before I wrap up that portion of harvest, then we will be cleaning out some cull trees and turning them into firewood to clear up the land they are on.  Some of it is going to pasture, some of it back to Christmas trees.  There will be lots of grass seed to get planted this spring to fix the disaster that the roads turned into this season with the mud.  After the books are done, I hope we have enough to begin rocking t least some of the more traveled sections of tree road.  Check back with us from time to time or better yet like us on facebook or subscribe to the farms blog.  It’s an easy way to keep up with what we are doing around here.   Merry Christmas everyone.

Molalla Country Farm Loop.   In the summer we offer a hay ride through the farm that goes through the bottom of the farm that few of our U-Cut customers get to see.  We’ll explain a little bit about what is going on in the different parts and answer questions you might have about how we do what we do or about the trees and the critters we have running around.  On a hot day it is a nice ride through the trees.  Most of the tour route is shaded and 10—15 degrees cooler than it is in the sun.   If you want a quick ride the tour takes about a half hour.  We have a longer ride where we can stop and you can learn a bit more about the farm, we’ll also stop and walk out to what we call the hangin’ tree.  It is a huge old doug fir.  We hope to get a forester out to bore the tree so we can get an age for it.  This ride takes an hour or even longer if you would like and we don’t have people waiting for a hay ride up top.  We will have a summer version of our craft project for the kids, our animals are still hanging around begging for treats and we will have a cool beverage and a cookie for a quick snack.  If you would like to stay longer you can bring a picnic lunch or browse through the tree fields.  After the trees are finished growing you can pick out a tree for this Christmas.  We will tag it and give you a map marking where it is at.  This gives you the best selection of trees possible.  We do ask that you put a deposit down on the tree for us to hold it for you.   Produce from our CSA garden will be available for purchase and we always have fresh eggs available.   I soon hope to have a new page on our website with better explanations about the Farm Tour.
