What is a CSA? CSA is short for Community Supported Agriculture. It is an agreement between the farmer and the subscriber where the subscriber purchases a share of what the farmer grows. A weekly produce basket is delivered either to your door or to a drop off point. For the farmer this means a more even and reliable cash flow to work with in order to farm. The subscriber gets ultra fresh produce from a place and someone they know.
How do you grow your vegetables? We are not organic, but we grow our garden in a sustainable method without using chemicals.
Do I have to work as part of my subscription? No. If you want to bring the family up for a day and pull some weeds we are more than happy to let you help. We love to introduce kids to the fun of getting dirty in the garden and the great taste of veggies that they picked just a few minutes before.
What’s in a basket? A basket contains a variety of produce that is ready for picking. Most baskets always include greens and salad mix. It also can include fresh herbs, flowers and up to a dozen eggs. For baskets we currently use plastic totes that measure 16” across and are 14” deep. Baskets tend to be a bit smaller in the beginning of the season but get larger as the main crops of summer come in.
How many baskets do I get? 20 –25. Baskets start in mid June and go through mid October. We start growing greens in early February. In May as we have greens available we let you come up and get a basket or two of fresh greens.
Where do I pick p my basket? We have drop off locations in Molalla, Oregon City & Clackamas. As the need increases we will add more sites for drop offs. Home delivery is available for an extra charge. You are always welcome to pick up any basket at the farm. We just need a couple days notice.
What else is available to me? Being a part of our CSA gives you access to the farm at times when it is not open to the public. During the summer months we have hay rides and family activities available as a part of the “Molalla Country Farm Loop”. There is a charge for these activities, but they are included as a part of your CSA subscription.
Can I get extra produce? Yes. We have extra person add-ons and canning shares available for purchase. We will also send out an email a couple days before delivery with prices and amounts of what else is available for purchase.
How Much does this cost & how do I pay? A full share is enough for a family of four and costs $475. A half share is enough for two adults and costs $275. We can split the cost into three payments. We are not set up at this time to take credit cards at the farm. If you do want to pay with a card, shares can be purchased through localharvest.org
What’s the risk to me as a subscriber? There is always some risk in farming. Late freezes affect fruit production, too much/not enough heat/rain effect how well the garden grows. The zucchini could have a really good year, or the local deer population could break in and riot in the garden. You will have the same risk we do for the garden, we promise to do our best but we can’t control weather (or the deer). Some years are better than others. The premise of the CSA is that when you stick with it the production will average out over time. We cannot give refunds if a crop fails for some reason.
Questions? Please give us a call or email and we would be happy to talk with you. We can also mail an information packet and application for subscribing with our farm.
Registration packets are available during U-Cut season. |
